Discover a new level of connection and meaning in your healing work.
Shiatsu is the art of Japanese Massage, which integrates Chinese medicine theory and Japanese practice with Western physiology and anatomy. The word ‘Shiatsu’ comes from the Japanese words ‘shi’, which means finger and ‘atsu’, which means pressure. This pressure is created by the practitioners body weight through fingers, thumbs, elbows, forearms, feet and knees in contact with the recipients body.
Regular Shiatsu treatments can improve self awareness, energy levels, reduce pain, and maintain a physically and emotionally balanced state.
Join us for a transformative shiatsu retreat!
In this Summer Shiatsu Retreat, we will explore the dynamic qualities of the fire element, focusing on the four fire meridians. Achieving harmony through the bladder meridian, as water controls fire as needed.
Fire, being the most yang of the Elements, embodies ethereality, lightness, speed, and brightness. This workshop serves as an accelerated introduction to the elements, imparting comprehensive knowledge about meridians while emphasizing the swift, bright, joyful, and tactile qualities associated with summer.
As in each of our introductory courses, we utilize the bladder meridian as a foundation for learning and applying shiatsu techniques. The workshop covers the following topics:
- Exploring and comprehending the Summer (FIRE) energies present in our bodies and environment.
- Learning basic Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) principles for Shiatsu practice.
- Fostering a sense of community through sharing and connecting with fellow participants.
- Acquiring the skills to give summer-themed Shiatsu, and be able to give a 45-minute Shiatsu treatment to family or friends.
- The aspects of the element Fire such as Touch, Inspiration, Connection and Joy will be taken to another level
The workshop delves into the various facets of the Fire element such as Touch, Inspiration, Connection, and Joy. By delving into the background of Shiatsu Bodywork and its connection to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), participants gain insights that facilitate a deeper understanding of themselves during this season, along with practical tools to nurture a more open heart.

Autumn is an active member of the
Shiatsu Association of Aotearoa New Zealand (SPAANZ)
My Shiatsu lineage goes back to my two influential teachers in Germany, Harald Gierl and Chris Saleski, who are strongly influenced by Master Ohashi and his Ohashiatsu method.
I feel influenced by Ohashiatsu and Zen Shiatsu which were both part of my training. Working with the energetic body feels natural to me and I enjoy to use barefoot techniques and the healing scarf.
Autumn Falk is a Medical Herbalist, Naturopath and Shiatsu Practitioner.
Trained by leading herbalists and iridologists in Germany, at the “Institute of Phytotherapy” (IfP) in Berlin, she completed her 3 year training in 2007. After the statutory exams, she graduated as a naturopath in 2008.
During this training Autumn came into contact with Shiatsu and found this form of body work to provide a welcome balance within the busy mental activities of study. Autumn began her three year Shiatsu training at the Shiatsu Schule Kreuzberg (Berlin) alongside her Naturopathy studies.
Autumn was born and raised in Germany. Upon completion of high school, Autumn travelled in New Zealand and decided this was the country of her future home. At this time however, she returned to Germany, to study. Having gained her qualifications in Germany as a Naturopath and then Shiatsu practitioner, Autumn moved to New Zealand in 2009 and is happy to be growing her clinic in the beautiful Bay of Plenty.
Autumn started teaching Shiatsu in 2015 and founded the Shiatsu Bodywork Academy in 2020.
