Diploma course 2024-2025


The two-year diploma course will enable participants to fully diagnose and treat clients using basic and advanced Shiatsu techniques. Participants will practice in-depth shiatsu techniques on friends, family and stangers, and gain a deeper understanding of Shiatsu and oriental health as applied to their own life and that of their clients.

The Shiatsu Diploma, encompasses the second and third years of the Diploma in Shiatsu Therapy, and your pathway to becoming a qualified Shiatsu practitioner.

But it is also a personal journey… A journey on which you learn new ways of thinking, explore who you are and how you connect with others and your surroundings. You will gain an understanding of the cycles in nature and life, as seen through the lens of Shiatsu, at the five elements, the seasons and how this relates to you.

This two year practitioner level diploma builds on the foundation level certificate of Shiatsu. Participants will learn in depth the philosophies behind Shiatsu treatments, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) theory and oriental practices. The course covers detailed methodology and techniques for treating a wide range of ailments and diagnoses with Shiatsu, as well as oriental diagnoses and developing treatment plans. Participants are guided in their journey to become professional practitioners as they complete case studies and student clinics, study ethics and business skills, find their own style within shiatsu, working towards making bodywork their livelihood.

The diploma course is made up of 1100 hours of teaching, online reading and self-directed learning. Student should expect to spend between 10 and 12 hours weekly on course-related activities in addition to the 10 full weekend courses per year.


To attain the diploma, participants must:

  • attend all 14 compulsory weekend courses (over 2 years)
  • complete a minimum of 6 elective courses (over 2 years)
  • attend regular tutorials and independent study groups
  • gain 200+ hours of practical experience with shiatsu sessions and supervised student clinics
  • complete 200-400 hours self-directed learning, reading and assignments
  • 100+ hours self-reflective daily practice
  • hold a current NZ level 2 First Aid Certificate

  • Module 1: Thursday-Sunday, 9am til 6pm
  • Modules 2-13: Fridays 4pm til 8pm, Saturdays and Sundays 9am til 6pm
  • Module 14: Thursday-Saturday, 9am til 6pm, (then graduation party)

Tutorials are on Monday nights after each Module (excepte modules 3,9, and 14) at 6pm til 9pm.

Elective Course Modules:

Elective courses depend on availability and dates tbc. Available courses will be viewable once they are confirmed with the instructors.

The cost for these is included in the course fees and booking will be via the website with the code provided at the time of booking this training. However, other courses may be credited here if deemed appropriate by Shiatsu Boduwork Academy. (All fees for external courses will be the responsibility of the student and no discount will be given on the Diploma in Shiatsu Therapy Training, if a student choose to cross credit external courses.)
