Interaction with a small group of participants

In Shiatsu practice, the Earth element is associated with late summer and embodies qualities of stability, nourishment, and grounding. This element corresponds to the spleen and stomach meridians, which play crucial roles in digestion and the distribution of energy throughout the body. A balanced Earth element fosters a sense of inner harmony, enabling individuals to nurture themselves and others effectively.

During the Late Summer Shiatsu Retreat, practitioners focus on harmonizing the Earth element by engaging in techniques that promote centering and grounding. This includes Hara (belly) work to support digestion and enhance overall stability. By aligning with the Earth’s nurturing energies, participants aim to transition from a state of overthinking to one of mental clarity and physical balance.

Instructor

Autumn Falk is a dedicated Medical Herbalist, Naturopath, and Shiatsu Practitioner with a deep passion for holistic health. She completed her training in Medical Herbalism and Naturopathy in 2007. During her studies, she was introduced to Shiatsu and quickly discovered its powerful ability to bring balance amidst the mental demands of academic life. Inspired by this transformative practice, she began a three-year Shiatsu training at the Shiatsu Schule Kreuzberg in Berlin, studying alongside her Naturopathy training.

In 2015, Autumn began teaching Shiatsu, sharing her knowledge and experience with others. Her commitment to the practice led her to establish the Shiatsu Bodywork Academy in 2020, creating a space for students to explore and deepen their understanding of Shiatsu.

Autumn is an active member of the Shiatsu Practitioners Association of Aotearoa (SPAA) NZ, continually contributing to the growth and recognition of Shiatsu in New Zealand.

Both of my primary Shiatsu teachers back in Germany, were strongly influenced by Master Ohashi and his Ohashiatsu method. I feel influenced by Ohashiatsu and Zen Shiatsu which were both part of my training. And I have been lucky enough to study with Ohashi on several occasions since.

I love the seasonal approach, which forces us to be present with what is… making time for whatever is present, without judgement.

Working with the energetic body feels natural to me. To me, learning to feel the subtleties of the body under my hands is where healing begins. The Shiatsu I teach has an emphasis on this… on perception, intuitive movement, and the quality of touch.

Shiatsu is the art of Japanese Massage, which integrates Chinese medicine theory and Japanese practice with Western physiology and anatomy. The word ‘Shiatsu’ comes from the Japanese words ‘shi’, which means finger and ‘atsu’, which means pressure. This pressure is created by the practitioners body weight through fingers, thumbs, elbows, forearms, feet and knees in contact with the recipients body.

Regular Shiatsu treatments can improve self awareness, energy levels, reduce pain, and maintain a physically and emotionally balanced state.

In this Late Summer Shiatsu Retreat we will work with late summer element of earth – the element of stability, with it’s nourishing and grounding qualities, and the corresponding organs of spleen and stomach.
